United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) received over 99% of the 2,600 employment authorization document (EAD) cards that were incorrectly sent to Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients early this year.
The work authorization cards were deemed invalid because they were mailed after a deferred action injunction that halted the expanded DACA and new Deferred Action Parental Accountability initiatives were put in place. Read our blog post about the deferred action injunction and select 3-year EAD recall to learn more.
While the majority of the invalid EAD cards were returned and DACA termination notices were sent to the 22 outstanding invalid 3-year EAD holders, USCIS is still collecting the remaining work authorization documents.
- If you were one of the 2,600 DACA recipients that received in invalid EAD card and you returned it, use USCIS’s Case Status Online tool to verify that it was received. If your card was submitted properly, the webpage will feature the date USCIS sent you an official Confirmation of Compliance Notice.
- If you haven’t returned your invalid card, the Case Status Online tool will inform you when USCIS sent you a DACA Termination Notice. Note: You are still required to return the physical EAD card.
Did you return your card, yet your DACA status was still terminated? If so, call USCIS Customer Service at (800) 375-5283 and select option 1 for English, then option 8. Or visit your local USCIS field office between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
